Scope and Content Note

The John Wesley Anderson Jr. Papers consist of material collected by the prominent Rock Hill Anderson Family predominantly of Rock Hill, SC. John Wesley Anderson Jr. was a Winthrop Training School Graduate (Class of 1933) and was the grandson of John Gary Anderson who was one the founders of the Anderson Buggy Company which later became the Anderson Motor Company. The Anderson House on Oakland Avenue in Rock Hill was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. The collection includes letters received from family and friends, personal diaries, newspaper clippings, and military manuals: graphs, worksheets and textbook from World War II. Anderson attended Coast Artillery School. Also included are a diary, letters, memoranda, program notes, and materials related to military members, the Winthrop Training School, and First Presbyterian Church of Rock Hill, S.C.

The Papers of John Wesley Anderson, Jr. were received by the Winthrop University Archives on February 8, 1983 from John W. Anderson, Jr. as a gift.
