Scope and Content Note
The Thomas Freeman Hudson Papers primarily consists of Father Hudson’s work in the Episcopal Church in the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina (EDUSC) as a parish priest in several parishes, principally the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd (York, SC); as diocesan Ecumenical Officer; and as a member of the diocesan Liturgical Commission. Materials contained in the collection include correspondence; papers; service bulletins; subject files; articles and a variety of publications. In addition to his ministry as Ecumenical Officer, Hudson was particularly interested in the two controversial issues facing The Episcopal Church (TEC) during the period, namely, the revision of the Book of Common Prayer (BCP) and the ordination of women to the Episcopal priesthood. The researcher will find an appendix of published works in alphabetical order.
Provenance
The papers of the Rev. Thomas Freeman Hudson, Episcopal Priest and Ecumenical Officer for the Episcopal Diocese of Upper South Carolina, 1956-1990 were received as a gift to the Archives from Father Hudson.
