Scope and Content Note
The Brattonsville Papers consists of material related to the efforts to revitalize the Historic Brattonsville area where the Bratton Family Plantation was located. The site contains three homes built by the Brattons from 1776-1855 and at one time consisted of a 8500 acres. The site was also the location of the important revolutionary battle referred to as Huck’s Defeat in which Colonel William Bratton played a role as well as his wife, Martha Bratton. The York County site was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1971. The collection consists of correspondence, both incoming and outgoing from Senator Sam Mendenhall, financial records, Project proposals, Bratton family lineage, and other correspondence.
Provenance
The Brattonsville papers were deposited in the Winthrop Archives by Mr. Wade Fairey on February 9, 1982.
