Scope and Content Note

This collection consist of a booklet titled An Address to the People of South Carolina on the Present State of Public Affairs by Samuel Jordan published in 1834. The booklet includes reflections of Samuel Jordan (1793-1876) of Abbeville, S.C. concerning the rights and liberties of the citizens of South Carolina in relation to national concerns and, most specifically, nullification (the constitutional theory that individual states can invalidate federal laws or judicial decisions they deem unconstitutional).
