This collection consists of the printed address titled An Address Delivered Before The South Carolina Society, on the Occasion of Opening Their Male Academy, On the 2nd of July, 1827 delivered by William George Read printed in 1827 in Charleston, SC by A. E. Miller at the request of the South Carolina Society. William George Read was the Principal of the South Carolina Society’s Male Academy and delivered the address on July 2, 1827. The Male Academy was a secondary school located in Charleston, SC. The address concerns the state of education in South Carolina and the South at the time and the plans for the curriculum and organization of the new Male Academy.
