Scope and Content Note

The Louisa Padgett Nettles Papers consist of a recipe book, several recipes, commencement invitations, a teacher’s manual for arithmetic, a resolution containing a short biography for Mrs. Nettles’ sister, Eulala B. “Lala” Padgett (1890-1922) from Richland Baptist Church, and a certificate of completion from the State Home Demonstration Office at Winthrop College. Louisa Padgett Nettles was born December 1894, and died July 9, 1967 and attended a food and nutrition short course at Winthrop during the summer of 1942. She was the wife of Fred Cauthen Nettles (1892-1969) and they are interred in Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg, SC. The collection includes an invitation for her niece, Isabella Janet Padget (1914-2001) graduation from Winthrop College in 1940, an invitation to her nephew’s, Ernest Wesley Padget (1926-1999), high school graduation from Saluda High School for her nephew, and an invitation to her nephew’s, John David Nettles (1925-2015), high school graduation from Cordova High School 1942.
