Scope and Content Note
This collection consists of a self-published memoir titled, A Far Cry by William Woodard Hall (1920-2013) in 1997 and autographed by the author in 1998. The memoir details the author’s experiences being raised in Fairfield County, SC, life during the Great Depression, moving to York, SC, his service during World War II in India, operating a floor and wall covering business he opened after the war, his tenure as director of the Bank of York, his work with his church (First Presbyterian Church of York), and his work with the York Rotary Club. He relates all the stories he heard and could remember from when he grew up and then his family life and experiences as native South Carolinian. His memoirs were edited by his son, Dr. William Woodward Hall, Jr.
