Historical Note

Lions International, along with all clubs associated with the brand, is an organization dedicated to civil services by enlisting local residence from their respective district and countries, notable aiding the visually impaired via raising capital or running donation drives with the aim to acquire glasses which are then donated to those in need for free.

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of records relating to the Fort Mill Lions Club in Fort Mill South Carolina, ranging from the years 1936 through 1984, written and/or organized by Fort Mill Lions Club secretary Orris L. Spires. Included within are records from Lions International Clubs founded within the state of South Carolina: Fort Mill Lions Club, Rock Hill Lions Club, Gaffney Lions Club, Union Lions Club, and York Lions Club. The collection includes bylaws and constitutions, meeting minutes, correspondence, administrative records, financial records, membership reports, records related to state conventions, manuals, pamphlets, newsletters, and newspaper clippings.

Provenance

The records of the Fort Mill Lions Club were received from Orrin Spires, by the Archives in the summer of 2015.
