Scope and Content Note
The Armistead Burt Papers consist of microfiche copies of 21 letters dating from July 1, 1847 through July 18, 1848 from Abbeville Congressmen and lawyer Armistead Burt (1802-1883) in Washington and are to Henry Workman Conner (1797-1861) who was President of the Bank of Charleston from 1814-1850 and president of the South Carolina Railroad Company from 1850-1861. The letters discuss consultations on political questions with American Statesman John Caldwell Calhoun (1782-1845), American politician Robert Barnwell Rhett (1800-1876), and others. The letters are not in strict chronological order.
Provenance
The Armistead Burt Papers were purchased from South Carolina Historical Society on August 31, 1992.
