Some academic libraries have budgets that allow them to license and maintain an institutional repository. But not all academic libraries have sufficient annual allocations to sustain a significant new resource. The presentation will describe the steps one such library took to secure funding and, in the process, mobilized strong interest and continuing support of the IR. Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) allocates sufficient funds to each unit to maintain business. To develop new initiatives, departments are required to request project funding from the vice president who oversees their area.
This presentation will describe how library staff collaborated with Information Technology, various university research offices, and faculty across all of the colleges to create excitement about an IR. As a result, two vice presidents allocated funds and the excitement that the library generated among its collaborators has continued. There is strong support for faculty and student contributions, journal creation and conferences. The library leads the IR development and includes some of its research partners on the advisory team. This presentation should be of interest to those still seeking funding and developing partnerships at their institutions.
