The collection consists of a publication titled Address of the Hon. J. Rion McKissick of Greenville, SC to the General Assembly of South Carolina in Joint Session at Columbia March 23, 1927 Upon the Occasion of the Presentation to the State of South Carolina of the Robe and the Gavel used by the Hon. William H. Wallace when presiding over the Historic “Wallace House” in 1876 published in 1927 in Columbia, SC. The publication consists of an address by James Rion McKissick (1884-1944) of Furman University to a joint session of the South Carolina general Assembly on March 23, 1927 concerning William H. Wallace and the events surrounding the South Carolina election of 1876. The address was given on the occasion of the presentation to the state of the robe and gavel used by Wallace as Speaker of the House in 1876. It includes biographical information about Wallace. McKissick became president of the University of South Carolina in 1936.
