Historical Note
The early Colonial families of Gaston, Howard, and Wilkinson originated in America in Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia. They moved to Alabama in the early part of the 19th century.
Scope and Content Note
The Gaston, Howard, and Wilkinson Families: A Genealogical History of Three Inter-married Families in the Black Belt of Alabama by Kathleen Wilkinson Wood chronicles the history of the families from the 1700s through 1976. In addition to the title surnames, family names include Cobb, Fluker, Nicholson, Smoot, Stone, and Wood among many others. The book contains photographs, biographical sketches, coats of arms, maps, transcriptions of family Bible records, transcriptions of wills, a bibliography, and an index.
