Mary Ona Denny (Class of 1919) worked at Winthrop in the Business Office from 1919 until she retired in 1942. She was married L. Don Mathews on August 9, 1924 and passed away on May 14, 1988. The Mary Ona Denny Mathews Papers consists of records and memorabilia of her time as a student at Winthrop (star course ticket, programs, photographs, and papers), newspaper clippings concerning the death of D.B. Johnson, and a 1919 paper on General Haig and a June 1, 1942 editorial from The State concerning the American Association of University Professors (AAUP) controversy at Winthrop. Also included are records from Mrs. Mathew’s tenure in Winthrop’s Business Office concerning donations and gifts.
