The South Carolina State Library History Collection consists of a paper titled The Imprint of Women: Notes on the South Carolina State Library and the Women Who Influenced Its Development 1929-1979 by Betty E. Callaham, Director of the South Carolina State Library 1979-1990. This paper was written as the basis for the Fifth Annual Dean’s Lecture of the College of Library and Information Science, University of South Carolina, to be delivered February 21, 1990. The paper traces the development of the South Carolina State Library from its founding through 1979 and focuses on the role of women in the process.
