Scope and Content Note

The York County Land Records collection consists of positive photocopies of land plots, deeds, and wills of Thomas D. Spratt and his family and of James McKee, Hugh White, and Robert Harris. These lands are in the same general area along the Catawba River and in the lands once belonging to the Catawba Nation. Other names mentioned in records are James Jackson, Joseph F. White, and John Merritt.

Additional Notes

The originals were found by a worker on top of an old safe in the Bank of Fort Mill during the process of remodeling. They were then given by the worker to Manley Storme "Stormy" Young to use in his history class at the Fort Mill Middle School. He gave copies to Louise Pettus of the Winthrop University School of Education and she gave them to the Archives.

Provenance

The York County Land Records were donated to the Archives by Manley Storme "Stormy" Young via Louise Pettus on March 17, 1981.
