Scope and Content Note

The National Association of Teacher Educators for Vocational Home Economics Records consists of records produced for and by the organization from 1974-1987. The National Association of Teacher Educators for Vocational Home Economics was organized in Atlantic City, New Jersey in December 1949 with the stated purpose: “1. To provide an organization for group expression and group action on problems of national importance to home economics teacher educators. 2. To provide opportunity for mutual understanding through the exchange of ideas and sharing of experiences pertinent to problems in teacher education. 3. To develop an ongoing set of standards for home economics teacher education. 4. To Provide an avenue for the exchange of materials pertinent to home economics teacher education. 5. To support the purposes of the American Vocational Association.” The organization’s name was changed to the National Association Teachers of Family and Consumer Science in the later 1980’s or early 1990’s. The collection consists of a history of the organization from 1949-1980, handbooks, correspondence, reports, proposals, committee records, convention records, meeting minutes, membership lists, and newsletters.

The National Association Teachers of Family and Consumer Science Records were donated to the Louise Pettus Archives and Special Collections by Ms. Nora Sweat on May 5, 1997.
