Abstract

  • Using conservative figures, Ullrich estimated that in 2020 the expanded trade area may grow to: 17,702 households, or 58,681 residents; have an aggregate income of $1.2 billion; have a $427 million in retail sales potential; and contain 740 employers and 5,780 employees.
  • Ullrich, who completed the study with the help of visiting scholars Lucy Gallo and Jennifer Stanton, said that if the boulevard was not expanded, that much of the sales tax revenues would be lost to North Carolina, particularly to southern Mecklenburg County, the Ballantyne area and fast-growing southwestern Union County, N.C.
