Peggy Ann Simmons McQuown-Klauber was born May 25, 1931 in Walterboro, SC. She graduated from Hampton High School and the Medical College of South Carolina with a degree in nursing. Over the years, she worked as a nurse and church and community volunteer. Peggy’s first husband was the late Dr. James Allen McQuown, who worked as an orthopedic surgeon. Her second husband was the late Dr. William Klauber who worked as a radiologist. She has 8 children, 24 grandchildren, and 6 great great-grandchildren.
