Godey’s Lady’s Book and Magazine was an American women’s magazine that was published in Philadelphia from 1830 to 1878. Louis A. Godey was editor for its entire run. Sarah J. Hale was editor from 1837 to 1877. In 1837 the circulation was 10,000 subscribers. In 1839 it was 40,000 and by 1860 circulation had increased to 150,000. It was also the first magazine to be copyrighted.
