Howard is a very active member of Temple Beth El, a Reform Jewish congregation in Charlotte. He has served as a lay leader on several congregational committees and served on the Temple Beth El Board of Directors for 9 years. Howard was also the Faculty/Staff advisor for the Winthrop Jewish Student Network.

Ana Subotic, admissions counselor for the office of admissions has been a staff member for the past three years. She is originally from Athens, Greece, where she lived until she was 12. Ani moved to Ljubljana, Slovenia to finish her high school career. After high school, she crossed the ocean and attended Winthrop University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Integrated Marketing Communication in 2014. Ani is currently pursuing a Master in Liberal Arts with a concentration of gender studies at Winthrop.

Kristen Kull graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1989 as a chemistry major. Her initial specialty during the 17 years in the service was in the logistics plans and programs career field, thrown into the fire at the initial start of the conflict in the sandbox, Desert Shield/Desert Storm. In conjunction with the need for more aircraft in the war effort, more pilots were required. Her alma mater requested a return to the Chemistry department to help train more candidates for the mission. Transitioning from logistician to instructor, she taught chemistry until her medical retirement as an Associate Professor from the Air Force, summer 2006.

All good things did not end. Her husband, Trent Kull, completed his doctorate and accepted at position at Winthrop in the Mathematics department. Consecutive with his hire, Kristen was able to join the Chemistry department at Winthrop as an adjunct instructor. Wasting no time out of the classroom, Kristen starting teaching chemistry at Winthrop in fall 2006. She has taught chemistry lecture and lab, and a physics lab course in her time at Winthrop. Several summers found her instructing at York Technical College in the chemistry lab and lecture. Additionally, her first on-line instruction was a course at York Tech.

Outside of academia, Kull volunteers for several local organizations. With Hospice and Community Care she is as a patient companion and a vigil volunteer. With United Way of York County, her focus is fair distribution of campaign contribution to community resource providers. Direct contact with population receiving these she serves as a member of the Allocations Committee, helping to determine distribution of resources to the Community.

Kristen was dismissed from the Air Force due to Multiple Sclerosis. Diagnosed in 1995, the relapsing/remitting disease always seemed to “reset” after a few weeks. It wasn’t until the birth of her daughter in 1999, when the battery never would fully recharge. Mobility went from a wide stance swagger, to use of a cane, to a three wheeled walker and a scooter. Working with the Office of Accessibility, Kristen provides input on areas/issues found on campus which present undue hardship, need repair or modification, or are non-existent.

Kristen provides perspective from a group which often times others are unaware of accommodations required. Trying to educate on these needs and improve the Winthrop community, she feels guests and prospective students should feel comfortable here, no matter their individual challenge.
