Description

In 1916, the most popular college song was “Fairest Flower of the Southland” written in 1919 by Dr. Donnis Martin, Professor of Ancient Languages. Fairest Flower would later be adopted as Winthrop's Alma Mater in 1936. It would remain the Alma Mater until 1974 when Winthrop went coeducational.
