Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of a poster commemorating the grand opening of the remodeled Rock Hill Gateway which included the unveiling of the four 22 foot-tall sculptures (Civitas) that stand at the intersection of Dave Lyle Boulevard and Gateway Boulevard in rock Hill, SC. There is also a fifth Civitas statue inside City Hall. The Rock Hill Economic Development Corporation commissioned Audrey Flack in 1988 to produce the statues with each Civitas holding a different circular emblem to signify: Gears of Industry; Flame of Knowledge; Stars of Inspiration; and Lightning Bolt of Energy. The unveiling of the Civitas statues and the gateway was coordinated with the Annual Come-See-Me event in April of 1991.
