We are on the SAME team: Don’t Wear your Baseball Uniform to a Football Game!

Description

Have you ever attended an IEP meeting, and although we are all on the same team, felt you wore the wrong uniform? The school staff is wearing their football uniforms and the parents are wearing their baseball uniforms? I am a mom of a child who has Down syndrome. She is fully included in general education in 7th grade. I advocate for my daughter, and I have advocated for many families working toward an inclusive education for their children with disabilities. From my years of teaching and advocating for inclusive practices, I will be sharing tips for both parents and professionals. These tips will lead to better communication between parents and professionals, provide strategies for effective IEP meetings with successful outcomes, as well as tips to equip both parents and professionals in implementing inclusive practices in the classroom. “The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime.” (Babe Ruth)
