Abstract

Artistry and athleticism are integrated throughout dance training and performance. Dance, in all forms, demonstrates cohesion between creativity and physicality. This allows dancers to emotionally and physically identify themselves with their training at a higher level compared to other athletes and artists. The mental connection with movement, in conjunction with the specificity of dance technique, uniquely influences the dancer’s psychological profile and performance quality. Research suggests that there are distinguished characteristics specific to dancers, including perfectionism, competitiveness, negative body image, advanced multitasking abilities, and profound creativity. Understanding the dancer’s characteristics and how they affect performance quality is beneficial when constructing methods and techniques used to enhance performance.
