Abstract

This paper was a study of the contributions of capitalism, globalization and militarism to mainstream feminism. The literature review concluded with an exploration of feminist democracy. Two research questions were explored; how has capitalism, globalization and militarism contributed to the practices of mainstream feminism and how can the practice of feminist democracy be an alternative. As a retired Army Officer, I argue that the lack of knowledge about the negative effects of capitalism, globalization and militarism keep feminists within the mainstream. Socialist feminism needs a critical review by feminists. Women as a majority don’t identify with socialist feminism, because the words are used in a pejorative manner and a militarized nationalism demonizes feminism. By continuing to practice liberal feminism, feminists are perpetuating a capitalist, globalized, militarized feminism that is destructive to the overall quality of life for women worldwide.

Comments

I am in the process of writing my capstone thesis and hope to present on the finished literature review.
