Historical Note
Ave Maria Press is a Roman Catholic publishing company founded in 1865 by Father Edward Sorin a Holy Cross priest who had founded the University of Notre Dame. The purpose of the company was to publish the Ave Maria magazine which focused on Catholic families, honoring the Virgin Mary, and showcasing Catholic writings. Sorin placed Sister Angela Gilespie, a nurse veteran of the American Civil War in charge. The first issue was published on May 1, 1865. By 1900, Ave Maria was the largest English-language Catholic magazine worldwide. The magazine ceased publication in 1970 due the decline in circulation. Ave Maria Press now focuses solely on the publishing of Catholic books.

Description
The Ave Maria is a family magazine devoted to the honor of the blessed virgin. This volume consists of weekly issues, published every Saturday, dating January through June 1893. The publisher at the time was Rev. D. E. Hudson, C.S.C. Please see the attached index.
