Description
On December 26, 1928, Winthrop's founder and first president, Dr. David Bancroft Johnson dies. Dr. Johnson founded Winthrop in 1886 and served as president until his passing in 1928.
This photograph is of the funeral service for Dr. David Bancroft Johnson on front campus. Dr. Johnson was originally buried on front campus, but was relocated in 1936 and buried in the Little Chapel when the building was moved from Columbia, SC to the Rock Hill, SC campus.
