Hellen Gurganus Patrick (1891-1930) was the daughter of Robert Goodlett Patrick who was President at Judson College, her Grandfather, Dr. Charles Manly, was president of Furman university, her other grandfather, Professor John Bellinger Patrick was founder and superintendent of the Patrick Military Institute, her great grandfather, Dr. Basil Manly, was President of the University of Alabama, and her Uncle, Dr. John Manly, was head of the Department of English at Chicago University.
Scope and Content Note
This collection includes correspondence between Hellen Gurganus Patrick (1891-1930) and D.B. Johnson from 1913 to 1916. The letters and telegrams also include recommendations on the behalf of Ms. Patrick for receiving a position at Winthrop College. Also included is a picture of Ms. Patrick, a program for a senior recital from Judson College at Marion, Alabama in 1910, and a personnel file on Ms. Patrick. Ms. Patrick was offered a position in the Winthrop Department of English for the 1916-1917 academic year, originally accepted, but then was offered a job at another institution and backed out of the position at Winthrop.
Hellen G. Patrick Papers were given to the Archives by the Presidents Office, Winthrop University on September 13, 2002.
