Historical Note

William Willis Boddie was born on November 25, 1877 in Nash County, N.C. He was the son of William Willis Boddie and Georgianna Taylor Perry. He was married to Helen St. Clair Scott daughter of Martha Brockinton and David Cunningham Scott on December 18, 1912 at Kingstree, Williamsburg County, S.C. They had eight children. Boddie graduated from the University of North Carolina in 1897. He also studied law there and was admitted to the bar in 1903. Boddie served as an educator and lawyer in North Carolina, Texas and South Carolina between 1897 and 1930. In 1920, he was licensed to practice law in South Carolina, and moved from Texas to Kingstree, S.C. He wrote a history of Williamsburg County as well as published hundreds of sketches on historical subjects relating to the Scotch-Irish and the Lowcountry of South Carolina, in a number of South Carolina newspapers. He also published a number of pamphlets on family and local history. He died on November 3, 1940 at the age of 62 in Columbia, S.C.

Scope and Content Note

Joseph Edward Brockinton (1853-1900) His American Paternal Line and His Descendants to 1927 by William Willis Boddie relates some of the family history and genealogy of the Brockinton Family of Williamsburg County, S.C. from 1725 to 1927. In addition to the Brockinton family, some other surnames mentioned are Drew, Fowler, Scott, Davis, Bradford, Kennedy, Epps, and Harvey.
