Historical Note
Reverend Walter Lee Lingle (1868-1956) was a 1892 graduate of Davidson College and 1896 graduate of Union Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA. He was pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Rock Hill, SC from 1902 through 1907. Dr. Lingle would later become president of the Davdison College Board of Trustees from 1906 to 1929 and President of the college from 1929 to 1941. Dr. Lingle was also the grandson of longtime professor and dean at Winthrop College, Dr. J. William Thomson (1863-1938).
Scope and Content Note
The Walter L. Lingle Reminiscence consists of Memories of Rock Hill by Walter L. Lingle, a Presbyterian minister, was published in commemoration of the centenary of the First Presbyterian Church of Rock Hill which he pastored from 1902 until 1907.
