Scope and Content Note
The C. W. Campbell Papers consists primarily with records relating to the Historical Commission of York County. The Historical Commission Records consist mainly of the correspondence of Harper S. Gault, Commission Chairman(1959-1960). Of special interest would be the Commission’s research concerning the Confederate President, Jefferson Davis flight through York County and South Carolina during the waning stages of the American Civil War. Also included in the collection are photographs, newspaper clippings, and letters relating to the Campbell family, as well as a spelling workbook compiled by Parker School District in Greenville, South Carolina and Miss Sadie Goggans, Professor of Education at Winthrop, and Highway maps of York County (1950), a highway map of Fort Mill, SC (1967), and a copy of a 1907 map of Union County, NC showing property owners.
