Historical Note
Grace Beacham Freeman (1916-2002) was a writer, poet, and educator and was the South Carolina Poet Laureate from 1985 to 1986. She was married to Winthrop Biology professor John Alderman Freeman.
Scope and Content Note
The Grace Beacham Freeman Papers consists of records concerning her career as a poet in the 1970s and the early 1980s. During this time she worked as a poet therapist and as a poet in the Rock Hill area schools. Also included in the collection are personal papers and copies of many of Mrs. Freeman’s poems.
Provenance
The papers of Grace B. Freeman were deposited with the Archives between 1982 and 1984 by Grace B. Freeman.
