Historical Note
The American Civil Liberties Union in South Carolina was created with the Mission "to preserving the civil liberties enshrined in the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. Through communications, lobbying and litigation, the ACLU of South Carolina works to preserve and enhance the rights of all citizens of South Carolina. Foremost among these rights are freedom of speech and religion, the right to equal treatment under law, and the right to privacy."
Scope and Content Note
The American Civil Liberties Union South Carolina Chapter Records consist of several American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) newsletters. Also included are two ACLU student handbooks entitled, “Student Rights and Responsibilities in South Carolina,” one being a revised edition.
Provenance
The American Civil Liberties Union-South Carolina Chapter Records were donated to the Archives by the ACLU via Melissa Langston.
