Historical Note

The South Carolina Commission of Women was created in 1970 to “study the status of women and make periodic reports to the governor with its recommendations concerning educational needs and opportunities, to disseminate material relating to the rights, responsibilities and status of women.”

Scope and Content Note

This collection consists of pamphlets, annual reports, “A Legal Guide for South Carolina Women,” “The Women’s Resource Catalogue,” one edition of the commissioner’s newsletter, and an address list of “Women Services in South Carolina.”

Provenance

The South Carolina Commission of Women was donated to the Archives by the South Carolina Commission of Women via Ron Chepesuik on January 27, 1981.
