Archibald Hamilton Rutledge (1883 -1973) was an American poet and educator. He was South Carolina's first poet laureate from 1934 to 1973.
Scope and Content Note
The Archibald Rutledge Letters consists of letters written to Miss Marguerite Tolbert, Winthrop alumna (Class of 1914) and Trustee (1950-1958), the letters concern Rutledge’s proposed biography of David Bancroft Johnson (1856-1928), Winthrop founder and first President (1886-1928).
Provenance
The Archibald Rutledge Letters were donated to the Archives by Marguerite Tolbert, via Jean Appleby Jackson, Director of Alumni Association on Novermber 14, 1980.
