Historical Note
The Mr. USA Pageant was held on May 13, 1977 in Charleston, SC as a spoof of traditional beauty pageants and was sponsored by the National Organization of Women (NOW). The event was created in part to protest the Miss USA contest being held in the city on May 8, 10, and 14, 1977 in which public funds were used to lure the pageant to Charleston.
Scope and Content Note
The Mr. USA Pageant Records consists of letters, news releases, newspaper clippings, memorabilia, and photographs relating to the operation of the pageant and the publicity generated from the pageant. The Mr. USA Pageant was held on May 13, 1977 in Charleston, SC as a spoof of traditional beauty pageants and was sponsored by the National Organization of Women (NOW).
