Historical Note
The South Carolina Extension Homemakers Council was organized at Winthrop College in June 1921. It is composed of Extension Homemakers Clubs throughout the state. These clubs are organized into county councils. The purpose of the state council is to develop, strengthen and correlate the work of the county councils in the state and their efforts to assist women in promoting all interests pertaining to the higher standards of living in homes and communities.
Scope and Content Note
The South Carolina Extension Homemakers Council History and Handbook collection consists of History of South Carolina Extension Homemakers Council: Fifty Years 1921-1971 by Mrs. W. E. Cochran, 1971 and a 1971-1972 Handbook of South Carolina Extension Homemakers Council.
Provenance
The South Carolina Extension Homemakers Council History and Handbook were donated by The State Extension leader of South Carolina, Dr. Ruby Craven, on January 29, 1975.
